How It All Began:
I can’t quite put my finger on when my passion for acting began. I guess in a way it has always in my blood – it was never a conscious choice. Perhaps it all happened during my kindergarten nativity play. I played Mary, and as the lead, carried the weight of the show on my four year-old shoulders. Maybe the acting God’s aligned when they saw how passionately I lifted Baby Jesus up by the hair, or how I took the story into my own hands, racing up ahead using my theatre voice to lament ‘Come on Joseph, hurry up!’ as the narrator solemnly declared – ‘And Mary slowly followed Joseph.’
Or maybe I knew it was my calling when I made my sister and cousin laugh as they dared me successfully to buy a carton of milk down at the local shop dressed as a martian…or as a nerd…or as an old upper-class lady complete with posh accent, bouffant wig, and a fur-trimmed purse. Perhaps what did it was the buzz of going on stage as a young girl in the countless musicals I performed in or when my taste was (in) satiated by the first television audition I attended as a teenager having rehearsed and rehearsed the script for my sister... my mom... my dad... the dog...
All I know is being a performer is a huge part of what makes me Elizabeth Sandy. I have been very lucky to act in productions ranging from Australian Soap Opera to Shakespeare – each experience providing me with a leg, a wing, an antler of the acting bug. Now based in Los Angeles, I hope to bring my body of theatre, film and television work and ‘work it’ in Hollywood.
